Best Orthopaedics Hospital in Madurai
“Success doesn’t turn up overnight “, Preethi Hospitals had a humble beginning as a 6 bedded nursing home at KK Nagar, Madurai. The Department of Orthopaedics was established in 2007 by our Chairman and Professor Dr R.Sivakumar, under the guidance of Professor Dr M.Chidambram.
- Complex deformity correction and rehabilitation,
- Paediatric orthopaedics
- Hand and cosmetic reconstructive surgery etc.
Preethi hospital has one of the well-known arthroscopy and sports-medicine centres. Our highly trained renowned doctors help to provide a tremendous success rate from simple fractures to grave injuries that result from heightened physical movements. Damage to ligaments, tendons, or cartilage is among the conditions frequently diagnosed during an arthroscopy. These ailments afflict those who have arthritis or a history of joint injury. We have advanced arthroscopic technologies, ensuring the best outcome.
Sports Injury
Many Indians are competing in sports more than ever before. It helps them keep their body fit and healthy. However, due to varied reasons such as improper warm-up or stretching, techniques and protective gear, the incidence of sports-related injuries is on the rise. It commonly affects your ligaments, cartilage and even bones causing stress fractures. Prevention is better than cure. So, always contact your healthcare provider before starting any physical activity, especially active types of exercises or sports.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a well-known and popular procedure to treat sports injuries. Arthroscopy is often performed as a day-care procedure to visualise, diagnose and treat problems in a joint. This keyhole surgery involves minimal incisions, an arthroscope, advanced fibre optic technology, cameras and monitors to repair and restore the functions of joints. The more safe and more secure procedure with faster recovery!

Surgeries are performed after a thorough assessment of the patient’s general condition and risk factors, Post-surgery patients are taken care of by intensivists and pain specialists for any untoward events and pain-free recovery utilising Multimodal analgesia. Patients can go home pain-free, mobile, with a good range of motion and smiling. Preethi Hospital is proud to announce to cater all types of Arthroplasties like Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement, Total Shoulder Replacement, Total Elbow Replacement, Revision arthroplasty, and Custom mega-prosthesis including fixation of Periprosthetic fractures.
At Preethi Hospital since the inception of the unit, nearly 3648 Joint Replacement Surgeries (2189 Total Knee Replacements and 1459 Total Hip Replacement) have been performed with more than 10000 patients benefitted.
TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT (TKR)
Total Knee replacement is the most commonly performed surgery for advanced arthritis in patients over more than 60 years. Often patients come very late in the natural history of degenerative osteoarthritis resulting in gross deformities. It is challenging for the surgeon to treat them. However, Preethi hospital is equipped with skills and resources to treat them showing excellent and reproducible results.
Case example 1: Severe Bilateral Osteoarthritis Knee with Varus deformity. Managed with TKR Semi constraint type of prosthesis.
Case example 2: Severe Bilateral Osteoarthritis knee with Varus deformity and Fixed flexion deformity with medial tibial bone loss. Managed with TKR with medial tibial screws and Stem augmentation.
Uni Condylar knee Arthroplasty (UKA):
Uni condylar Knee arthroplasty is a procedure, where only the degenerative side of the Joint is replaced, conserving the normal portion of the joint. This is usually done in symptomatic patients presenting with a very early stage of Osteoarthritis, a condition called Anteromedial Osteoarthritis.
Case example 3: UKA – Patient with Left Medial compartment Osteoarthritis, with stress views showing intact lateral joint space, with correctable Varus deformity. Managed with UKA.
TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT
Total Hip Replacement is commonly performed for fractures in the elderly population due to weak osteoporotic bone. It’s also commonly performed for young in the Indian sub-continent for Avascular Necrosis and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Preethi hospital can perform bilateral hip replacement in these young patients who can lead a healthy and active life. Many patients are benefitted from these procedures returning to their earlier status otherwise they were very much incapacitated due to illness.
Case example 1: Bilateral Severe Hip arthritis, managed with Bilateral Uncemented Total Hip replacement
Revision Hip Surgery for Peri-implant fracture, Managed with a Locking plate, retaining the stable prosthesis (Case 2) and by Replacing the loose primary stem with a long stem with plate augmentation (Case 3)
Case example 4: Uncemented Total Hip Replacement done for Right Neck of femur fracture in an elderly patient
Case example 5: Revision uncemented Hip arthroplasty with long stem done for failed Right hemiarthroplasty with aseptic loosening
CUSTOM MEGA PROSTHESIS RECONSTRUCTION AFTER TUMOR EXCISION
Orthopaedic oncology is an emerging branch with few reconstructive surgeons available. Patients with bone tumours usually need to travel to far-off places like Mumbai, Chennai and Coimbatore to get treatment. Preethi Hospital is the best hospital with a skilled surgical team to cater for the whole of Southern Tamil Nadu. The new hospital block is in process of setting up a Bone bank and a Radiotherapy Unit as well. This completes the holistic approach to treating diverse Bone tumours.
Tumours left apart, Joint replacement of the hip and knee using custom mega-prosthesis has its application in the treatment of complex periarticular fractures in the elderly with the advantage of getting the patient to reach the pre-injury status at the earliest possible, without any need to wait for fracture union in an already fragile patient.
Case Examples 1 & 2: Total Knee Replacement using Custom Distal femur (Case1) and proximal femur replacement (Case 2) mega-prosthesis after complete resection of the pathological distal femur and proximal femur in cases 1 and 2 respectively
TOTAL ELBOW ARTHROPLASTY
TEA as it is called is commonly performed in advanced arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis, and posttraumatic arthritis. However, due to the recent increase in high-velocity side swipe injuries where there is bone loss and failed reconstruction, TEA is a salvage procedure. Preethi Hospital has a high success rate in a TEA in young patients.

Case example 1: TEA for Complex elbow fracture
TOTAL SHOULDER ARTHROPLASTY
Hemiarthroplasty is a commonly performed procedure for severely comminuted osteoporotic fractures. However, if the patient has rotator cuff insufficiency along with non-reconstructuble fracture Reverse shoulder Arthroplasty is being performed in our centre.
Case example 2: Left shoulder hemiarthroplasty is done for comminuted proximal humerus fracture
Post-op X-ray of Reverse shoulder arthroplasty
