Advanced Spine Surgery
The Spine Surgery Department at Preethi Hospitals, Madurai is headed by Prof. Dr. R.Sivakumar and includes senior spine consultants Dr. T.Vinoth, Dr. R.J.Bharat Kumar, Dr. Prashasth B.S.(Junior Consultant) Dr. Bharathi Raja, Dr. Bharath (Neuro Surgeon), Dr. Azeem and Post Doctoral Fellows in Spine Surgery, Physician Assistant & Spine Physiotherapists. The clinical team provides specialised care to all patients with Spine Pathologies.
The Spine Surgery unit at Preethi Hospital is one of the largest tertiary care units in the southern part of Tamilnadu with around 350-400 complex spine surgeries performed a year.
The team aims to provide comprehensive Spine Care with a motto of “Safe Spine Surgery with Functional Preservation” to all patients.
Bolstered by regular technological advancements like endoscopic spine instruments, O-Arm and S8 Navigation, State of the art microscope, latest spinal implants & diagnostic services like neuro monitoring, MRI, CT Scan & Digital X-Ray. The team was the first in South Tamilnadu to perform micro endoscopic, tubular and full endoscopic discectomy, mimimally invasive percutaneous pedicle screw fixations and MIS TLIF and other complex spine surgeries. Supported by active physiotherapy neuro rehabilitation and occupational therapy. We are a regional centre for Complex Spine Deformity Correction Surgery.

Our hospital is one of the few centers providing a Postdoctoral fellowship program under the Tamilnadu DR. MGR Medical University. Our team aims to provide affordable comprehensive spine care with a motto of safe spine surgery with functional preservation to all patients. The spine unit has a very strong focus on clinical and academic research our consultant is regularly updating their professional skills by training in reputed institutes abroad and my conducting CMEs and conferences. In an era of technological advancements, our department is constantly updated with the introduction of newer technologies. Full endoscopic discectomy an ultra minimally invasive procedure – a keyhole single stitch surgery for spine disorders was introduced with RIWO(Germany Scopes in 2021.

The inclusion of an O-ARM and Stealth navigation station(S8) (Medtronic-USA) in our department makes us one step ahead of others in total computer navigation solutions for safety and precision for complex spine disorder. Intra-Operative Neuro monitoring provides us safe approach for complex spine deformity correction and tumor excision procedures in an easy way without risking injury to the spinal cord. Visualization of a clear surgical field makes spine surgery safe. Zeiss Tivato 700 – Operating surgical microscope with three eyepieces and an HD monitor for better quality. Our armamentarium also includes state-of-the-art Laminar flow exclusive spine operation theatre, a fully radiolucent operating table, a steno scope for decompression procedure, the latest spine implants for better patient outcome, high-resolution CT Scan / MRI Integrated with spine navigation to name a few. Our department provides solutions for all spine-related issues.
